Define Square:

A square is composed of 8 dancers (4 couples). Each couple has their backs to a different wall in the hall. The girl is always on the boys right. The couple with their backs to the front of the hall is couple number 1. The couple to their right is couple 2. The couple facing the front of the hall is couple number 3 and the remaining couple is number 4. Couples 1 and 3 are also referred to as heads and couples 2 and 4 are referred to as sides.

Front of Hall

Partner: The boys partner is the person on the his right, the girls partner is the person on the her left. Partners ALWAYS hold hands.

Corner: The boys corner is the person on his left. The girls corner is the person on her right.

Opposite: The person that faces you in the square.

Circle: A circle can be composed of any number of couples. The definitions for partner and corner above apply to a circle. Everybody holds hands.

Condensed Call Definitions:

Honors: While holding hands slightly face partner and boys bow, girls curtsy then while still holding hands, turn slightly to face corner and boys bow and girls curtsy.

1. {43} Circle Family (Left & Right): Join hands, boys palms up, girls palms down. elbows bent, hands above elbow, face slightly in directed direction. Keep to the beat of the music. The command Circle assumes left. (16 steps full around)

2. {45} Forward & Back: Forward 3 steps left-right-left, bring up right to touch, back 3 steps right-left-right bring back left. Outside hands in center can touch palm to palm. Balance - Left forward, right to touch, right back, left back. (8 steps, balance 4 steps)

3. {47} Dosado: Face your partner - pass right shoulders, without turning slide to the right back to back, then backup to start position. (Box 6 steps, SS 8 steps)

4. {49} Swing: Men on left, right arm around front of lady at the waist, left hand holds girls right, girls left hand on mens muscle. (4 steps) Whenever you swing you have changed partners.

5. {53} Promenade Family (Couples Full, 1/2; Single File): Man on left. Hold right hands then join left hands below right hands. (16 steps)

6. {59} Allemande Family (Left, Left Arm Turn, Right Arm Turn): Join left hands below elbow. Turn half way to face direction you can from. Arm turns same, go distance specified. (full around 8 steps)

7. {63} Right & Left Grand; Weave the Ring: Face partner, take right hands, pull by, as you pull by stick out your free hand, left to the next, pull by etc. Listen for call. Weave same as Grand but no hands. (10 steps)

8. {67} Star Family (Right & Left): Step forward and place designated hand into the middle, palms facing out, elbows slightly bent. (full 8 steps)

9. {69} Star Promenade: From a star left (or right) Pick up partner or directed person putting arm around their waist. Turn star specified distance. (full 12 steps)

10. {71} Pass Thru: Pass right shoulders with facing couple. (4 steps SS, 2 steps Box)

11. {73} Split the Outside Couple: Walk between other couple who have spread apart. After passing, other couple slides back together. Await next call.

12. {75} Half Sashay Family (Half Sashay, Rollaway, Ladies In Men Sashay): Men back and lady forward small step. Slide across. Move back to position. Rollaway: dancer on right releases right hand, rolls in front of left hand person. switches hands. Continues roll. Other person moves slightly to right. Ladies in men sashay: Men move 1 person to the left or right depending on direction of circle. (4 steps)

13. {79} Turn Back Family (U-Turn, Backtrack): U - Turn in place to face partner , keep turning. (2 Steps). Backtrack - In promenade formation, step out and U turn away from center of set. Turn out from single file promenade. (2 steps)

14. {83} Separate: Turn away from each other (back to back), walk 1/4 way around outside of square. (2 steps)

15. {87} Courtesy Turn: Left hand to left hand. Arm around small of ladies back. Turn 180. Left hand dancer backs up, right hand dancer goes forward. (4 steps)

16. {89} Ladies Chain Family (2 & 4 Ladies, Regular & 3/4): 2 Ladies Chain: Right hand pull by, courtesy turn. 4 Ladies Chain: Right hand star, go to opposite, courtesy turn. 3/4. Pass 2 boys, turn the next. (8 steps across, 10 steps 3/4)

17. {95} Do Paso: Face partner or directed dancer. Left arm turn 1/2 way, right arm turn 1/2 way to the corner or the person coming at you, then a courtesy turn partner or next call. (16 steps, to next call 12)

18. {97} Lead Right: As a couple, step in front of couple to the right. (4 steps)

19. {99} Right & Left Thru: Pull by with right hands, courtesy turn. (8 steps SS, 6 steps box)

20. {115} Grand Square: Heads hand-in-hand forward 3 steps and on the 4th release hands and turn to face partner taking hand of opposite. Sides are facing, back up 3 steps and turn to face opposite on 4th step.

Heads back up 3 steps and release hands and turn to face opposite on the 4th. Sides go forward 3 steps and turn to face partner taking opposites hand on the 4th.

Heads back up 3 steps and turn to face partner on the 4th. Sides go forward 3 steps and release hands, turn to face opposite and take partners hand on the 4th.

Heads go forward 3 steps, touch partner on 4th step. Sides go backwards 4 steps.

REVERSE

Heads back up and turn to face opposite. Sides go forward, turn and meet opposite .

Heads forward turn and meet opposite. Sides backup 3 and turn to face opposite.

Heads forward turn and meet partner. Sides backup and turn to face partner.

Heads backup. Sides forward. (32 steps)
